At the start of the year, I decided to go through an entire “rebranding myself” phase, and with that came the way I look and how I present myself. I discovered that I really liked to look luxurious and expensive, but my bank account was saying otherwise.
So, I decided to find a way that anyone can look expensive and elegant even on a budget.
After I figured out the recipe, I created this list for you.

INTRO
Hello gorgeous, welcome or welcome back to my blog! My name is Sarah and today we’re going to be discussing how to look expensive while being inexpensive.
I was inspired to create this list after I posted my “how to live a luxurious lifestyle on a budget” blog post.
In that post, I touched on how the way you look can affect the way you feel. So, in this post, we’re going to be diving deeper into that topic.
I will be showing you guys how anyone can look expensive or classy without breaking the bank. Ok, let’s get into it….
1. Take care of your body
Right so let’s start with body care. This is important because we need a good canvas to work off so taking care of your body internally and externally should be one of your first priorities in helping you feel expensive.
In terms of internally, making sure that you’re having a balanced diet and moving your body is a great way to start. Also, ensuring that you’re taking your vitamins and whatever medication your doctor may recommend for you is really important.
Our body is like a car and we want to make sure that we’re feeding it the right fuel for it to properly work.
Then for external, I’m talking about having a really good body care routine that works for you. Things like taking a shower once or twice a day, buying products that cater to your skin type (for example, if you have dry skin or sensitive skin), and exfoliating your body three times a week to make sure that your skin is soft.
One great hack I learned is buying products that have the same main scent. This allows us to build up a specific set. For example, if you have a vanilla body wash then you might want to get a vanilla-scented scrub with a body lotion that has vanilla undertones in it. So level by level you’ll be building up the vanilla scent.
2. Create a skincare routine
If you know me then you know I’m a huge advocate for having a well-structured skincare routine for your skin.
As I mentioned before, having a good canvas to work off is always the main goal. I believe that everyone should have a skincare routine that works for them.
Now, I have already done a post dedicated to tips to follow to improve your skin but I will quickly go over the main points that I made in that post:
- Have a morning and night skincare routine
- Exfoliate 3 or four times (if you have dry skin)
- Make sure that your skincare routine caters to your skin type
- Drink more water
- Use a sunscreen (yes, even if you’re a person of color)
Take your time and do your research. There are so many videos, blog posts, and Tik Tok where people share their skincare routines according to their skin types so you should definitely check them out or seek a dermatologist’s advice if you can.
3. Develop or simplify your makeup routine
Now let me make this part clear. This is very optional!
Please do not feel like you need makeup to look beautiful or that if you don’t wear makeup you are not beautiful (absolutely not the case). This section is for the girls that want to learn how to do their everyday makeup or have a makeup routine already and want to cater it to their classy look.
So, for those girlies, I would always recommend simplifying your makeup routine.
I’ll always say to further feel expensive try doing the “no makeup” makeup look. This is great because you can enhance those features without completely changing yourself and if you are going to do a dramatic look maybe try adding more neutral colors to your makeup.
4. Wear more nudes.
Ok so now let’s get into the fashion (which I know you guys have been waiting for), my first and one of my favorite tips is to start wearing more nudes, more creams, more Browns, more blacks and whites.
The reason for this is because nude is such a classy yet minimalist shade of color and it looks good on everyone (literally everyone!).
it’s also just such a timeless shade of color and it goes great with almost everything depending on how to style it.
That is why I will always recommend it if you want to look more expensive you should start wearing timeless colors like nudes.
This doesn’t mean that you have to stop wearing your purples and your pinks or whatever color you like but maybe just tone it down a bit or pair it with white or nude items to give it that expensive look.

5. Monochromatic is where it’s at.
There is nothing that has my heart more than monochromatic outfits.
If you don’t know what monochromatic outfits are, it is basically clothing that is all the same color or the same shade of color.
It is such a beautiful way to style your outfit also it makes your life 1000 times easier when it comes to picking outfits.
Now obviously you don’t have to wear this every day but something about wearing monochromatic outfits just has such an elegant and expensive feel and touch to it especially if it’s pastel, nudes, or cream colors. It just does it for me every time so if you haven’t tried it already, please give it a go.
6. Jewelry will make or break your look.
K let’s chit-chat about jewelry! Now hold your brakes, it might seem like something that is insignificant but trust me it’s really important.
When I was experimenting with my look, I realized that Jewelry plays a big part and if you want that expensive and elegant feel to your look then minimalist jewelry is top tier.
When shopping for jewelry try getting the ones that are beautiful but simple for example, something like a gold chain with your initials.
In my personal opinion, bulky and loud pieces of jewelry can really give off a cheap and overdone feel to your look. So, try tuning down the jewelry that you wear a couple of notches this will really help give you an expensive look. We don’t want to look like we’re trying too hard.
Personally, as long as I have a nice simple gold watch (real or not), small hoop earrings, and my gold chain with my birthstone on it I’m good to go.
My favorite places to shop for my inexpensive jewelry is at:
- Amazon
- Aliexpress
- shien
- Asos
7. Take your time with your hair.
This is a simple yet effective step even if you have 4C, tight curled hair or your hair is as straight as they come still taking the time with your hair would be a huge jump towards feeling and looking expensive.
There are so many easy and quick hairstyles that you can do that will allow your hair to look polished, neat and well put together.
Also do not forget to cater to your hair type when it comes to wash day. Even if that means that you need to set time aside to do your hot oil treatment or even your hair masks, it’s important because the end results will be flourishing Healthy looking hair.
8. simplify your nail day
lets chit chat about manicures and pedicures. if you are someone who invests in your nails and wants to look expensive and well put together, less is more.
Try doing more nudes, pinks, and reds. these are colors that compliment your skin and will leave you looking elegant.
I personally love my medium/long nails and don’t believe in giving them up to achieve an expensive look so I love doing simple colors or a french tip so that they don’t look too dramatic. Shapes I would recommend are squares, ovals, and coffin.
My extra two cents:
These are just my tips at the end of the day but to be honest looking and feeling expensive is all just a mindset. Even if you decide that you want to wear whatever color clothing that you want and crazy jewelry, if you believe that you are expensive and luxurious then that’s what you are. PERIOD!
But this is the end of the post, I really hope that you guys enjoyed it and maybe took something from my list. If you have any other tips or tricks make sure to leave them below in the comments I would love to hear them and I’ll see you guys next time!!!!
